Let's Start at the Very Beginning...

On September 15th, Katy and Andy found out that Baby Jacob has a life-threatening condition called Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH). CDH is a very serious condition in which a hole in the diaphragm allows abdominal organs to move into the chest restricting lung development. In Jacob's case, his liver is also squishing his heart and displacing other organs. CDH occurs in about 1 out of every 3,000 pregnancies and has a mortality rate of 50%. To make matters more complicated, Jacob has Right-Sided CDH which only occurs in about 10% of CDH cases and is typically more severe. They are so blessed to have found this out when they did, or Baby Jacob would have surely died at birth.

They will be delivering at UW Hospital in Seattle and later transferred to Seattle Children’s. Thank you to everyone who has already begun praying, and everyone who will now. Baby Jacob is blessed to have all of you thinking and praying for him.

Finally Home!

Jan 8, 2012 -Wow, we've been home since Tuesday and we're finally finding some down time, albeit it's 1:30am. We have been settling in to our home and getting used to our 'new family'. Katy and I take turns throughout the night taking care of Jacob, but it really takes the two of us to handle all of his needs. We enjoy the day with all the kids. Of course we also share some much needed nap times too!

Jacob has been doing quite well and seems to be loving this new environment, with the exception of adjusting to the noise of his brother and sister. Landon loves that he can hold and help out with his little brother. He is an outstanding and loving big brother. It's amazing how at 5, he is so understanding of Jacob's needs. Landon sings, hushes, and relaxes him like a daddy!

Hazel also loves and adores Jacob too, but doesn't understand the fragility of a newborn, especially one as needy as him. She makes putting him in his swing, bassinet, or anywhere to do something else nearly impossible. She is getting better, but wants to play with him just like her dollies.

Thank you everyone for your continued support and prayers for our family! We will try to continue updating everyone of Jacob's progress, but for now Katy and I run on only a few hours of sleep!

  2. Truly happy for you! We stopped by the RMH last Wednesday (we were up for my 4-week post-delivery check up at UW), and were told that you guys had checked out. So glad you get to be home together. Hope everything continues to fall into place for Jacob and your family.
