Let's Start at the Very Beginning...

On September 15th, Katy and Andy found out that Baby Jacob has a life-threatening condition called Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH). CDH is a very serious condition in which a hole in the diaphragm allows abdominal organs to move into the chest restricting lung development. In Jacob's case, his liver is also squishing his heart and displacing other organs. CDH occurs in about 1 out of every 3,000 pregnancies and has a mortality rate of 50%. To make matters more complicated, Jacob has Right-Sided CDH which only occurs in about 10% of CDH cases and is typically more severe. They are so blessed to have found this out when they did, or Baby Jacob would have surely died at birth.

They will be delivering at UW Hospital in Seattle and later transferred to Seattle Children’s. Thank you to everyone who has already begun praying, and everyone who will now. Baby Jacob is blessed to have all of you thinking and praying for him.

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas!

Dec 10, 2011 -Since we have to be in here for the holidays, we decided to make Jacob's room a little festive. And although we would rather believe we will be going home sooner than later, especially before Christmas, Jacob loves to look at sparkly lights so we have an extra excuse to make his room look more "Christmasy". We strung battery powered lights around his crib and when he has to go for a test, we feel like we are part of a float in a parade. The nurses love to come into his room and take in the warm holiday cheer. They all say they've never seen a crib decorated with lights before and we are so surprised. If I could afford it, I would buy these battery powered lights for all of the children's cribs/beds. It makes me sad to think they rooms don't look like Christmas. We have also strung candy cane lights across the top of his white board and put gel window clings in his huge picture window. We did not get a tree because we could not find one small enough. Secretly in my heart I have been really holding out on the tree idea because I am determined to be at home with our real tree on Christmas!

We usually have the one side of the crib down therefore we didn't add lights to that side.
